The Fat Rock encompasses a slick, outer sheath allowing the user perfect handling and movement through any belay device. Its fairly robust design means that it can be put under the pressure of heavy use when training at the wall and projecting routes outdoors. I also found that despite its size, it carried very little weight whilst on the wall, ideal for top end performances when climbing at your limit!
I have used many ropes when projecting hard routes, most of them within the first few sessions they’ve become worn out and furry or I have had to cut them. When projecting out here in Kalymnos, I found that the Fat Rock simply would’nt yield to the heavy strain of high impact falls and dogging accompanied with redpointing hard routes.
When I was projecting “Gaia” 8b in Kalymnos, I was taking a lot of heavy falls, constantly pulling on the rope to get back into position and in general putting a lot of strain on the rope! The Fat Rock was solid and showed little sign of wear or tear, I was very impressed with the use I received from the rope on my trip and I will certainly opt for using the Fat Rock on more of my hard sport climbing trips in future!
